The Department of Anthropology examines the unity and diversity of humanity, human culture and society from a comparative and global perspective. Members of our department have consistently included anthropologists of international renown, and have continually produced research in a wide range of areas. As part of one of the world’s top research universities, our department conducts research that is broadly international, varying in method and theoretical frame to understand human experience in social, cultural and evolutionary contexts. Under the general direction of the Department Manager, the Financial Assistant provides financial support to the Department of Anthropology.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the first point of contact for payroll related enquiries
- Processing payroll
- Troubleshooting and resolving payroll discrepancies
- Generating standard financial reports
- Verifying the accuracy and completeness of documents
- Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
- Gathering information in preparation for budget planning
- Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
Essential Qualifications:
- Completed advanced 3 year College Diploma in a recognized accounting program and/or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three years' of recent and related financial, payroll and grant administration experience in an academic environment.
- Experience processing financial and payroll transactions.
- Experience in reconciling accounting and generating reports.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial management, accounting principles and policies.
- Experience working with the University of Toronto's Guide to Financial Management, including it's financial and procurement processes.
- Demonstrated experience with Financial Information Systems (FIS) and Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
- Experience in effectively and clearly communicating financial information to university staff and faculty.
- Advanced computer skills, including MicroSoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise good judgment in dealing with faculty, and staff and can work in a team environment
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, and solid organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 09 -- $66,715. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $85,319. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
