The Department of English is committed to the symbiotic relationship of teaching, research and the larger concerns of society. Dedicated members of the department contribute to the teaching of interdisciplinary programs at both the undergraduate level and the graduate level, as well as bringing their interdisciplinary interests to their English courses. Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich history and geographical diversity of the literary tradition in English, a fascinating conversation spanning over a thousand years and connecting nations and peoples all across the globe.

The Department for the Study of Religion (DSR) fosters scholarly excellence and innovation among all students and faculty in the humanities and social sciences. We explore the way religions have grown and developed, how they have been understood and transformed, and how we can think about them with discipline in our religiously plural environment. Our programs enable students to grasp religion as a critical aspect of the varied cultures and philosophies of the world and the interactionsamong them. We study religion as a historical and political phenomenon with wide-ranging social, ethical, economic, and political effects. As a result, students at all levels can better understand how religion is at play in local and global contexts and can gain insight into the significant impact of religion on contemporary affairs. Our location in one of the most religiously diverse cities in the world is an important resource and responsibility as we facilitate intellectually informed and publicly minded conversations on religion in the public sphere through research, university networks, public events, and student engagement.

Reporting jointly to the Department Managers in the Department of English and the Department for the Study of Religion, the Financial Clerk will provide financial support to the faculty members, staff and students in two large and active humanities units. Working collaboratively with the staff in both departments, the Financial Clerk’s main duties will include preparing and processing expense reimbursements and journal entries, paying invoices, and reconciling purchasing card transactions.


Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Processing expense reimbursements
  • Processing accounts payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
  • Preparing and/or processing journal entries
  • Recording detailed transactions for many accounts
  • Coding financial information for processing in FIS
  • Reconciling purchasing card statements
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of related financial or administrative experience, preferably in an educational, research, or public-sector environment.
  • Experience monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on accounts.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to process financial transactions with accuracy, as well as theability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and meet competing deadlines in afast-paced environment.
    Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgement, decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).

This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto’s Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.
