Your opportunity:

Working under direction of the Finance Director, the Financial and Payroll Administrator is responsible for acting as the first point of contact for payroll related enquiries, entering timesheet data into applicable databases, troubleshooting and resolving payroll discrepancies, and reconciling payroll distribution. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for creating and maintaining purchase orders, collecting audit information, checking that proper approvals are obtained prior to processing transactions and keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Preparing payroll records for processing
  • Generating standard financial reports
  • Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to financial tasks
  • Processing accounts payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
  • Processing accounts receivable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Reconciling accounts
  • Processing expense reimbursements

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of financial and payroll experience, preferably in a university environment.
  • Experience processing accounts payable and accounts receivable and reconciling accounts.
  • Experience processing expense reimbursements. Experience maintaining databases and producing reports.
  • Experience monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations.
  • Experience preparing and/or processing journal entries.
  • Demonstrated experience verifying the accuracy and completeness of information.
  • Thorough knowledge of the University's financial guidelines or other similar guidelines. Experience with interpreting and applying guidelines and procedures.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Access. Demonstrated working knowledge working with databases and producing reports.
  • Advanced working knowledge with HRIS and FIS or other related financial and payroll systems.
  • Numerical aptitude; analytical ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Strong customer service orientation.

USW Pay Band 09 -- $66,715. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $85,319. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
