Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Human Resource Services, the incumbent is responsible for providing support with a range of services to a team of HR Consultants at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The main focus of the Human Resources Advisor's role is to provide support to recruitment including posting of positions, working with HR Consultant to prepare postings, develop pre-screening questions and screen submissions; schedule candidates; meet with candidates; administer testing processes; build community contacts in order to broaden candidate pools and; attend job fairs The position also provides HR support in such areas as: job evaluation, collection of salary data, employee orientation, grievance support, and general administrative support to HR. The position will provide information in respect to employment practices, employment legislation and the interpretation and application of staff policies and collective agreements while referring more complex issues to HR Consultant/Assistant Director, HR. Under general direction the HR Advisor will work closely with the Assistant Director, HR/Executive Director, HR on special projects and initiatives including data collection, employee communications, HR reporting etc.

Qualifications Required:

 

EDUCATION:

 

University degree in a relevant field of study; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Minimum of 2 – 3 years’ administrative experience preferably working in a Human Resources department with experience in recruitment processes, familiarity with job evaluation principles, understanding of collective agreements and ability to interpret and apply HR policy and collective agreement provisions. Knowledge of and experience using on-line tools; preferably experience with using social media recruitment tools. Experience screening resumes and familiarity with the principals of behavioral based interviewing. Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining websites. Familiarity with academic environments preferred.

 

SKILLS:

 

Proficient computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power point) and Visio; demonstrated experience working with databases and/or HRIS; knowledge of legislation relevant to employment practices.

 

OTHER:

 

Demonstrated client service orientation; excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a broad range of clients particularly concerning difficult or sensitive situations; maintains confidentiality as required of all HR professionals; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; strong analytical and problem solving skills; detail oriented; results oriented; adaptable and creative; ability to work as an effective team member and efficiently meet required deadlines. Able to travel to job fairs and the St. George campus to attend meetings and training.
