Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, this position, within the Design and Engineering Department, supervises the work of Mechanical drafting staff. Provides full professional engineering services to the University of Toronto.

 

The incumbent is responsible for providing full professional mechanical engineering services for projects undertaken by the Department of Design and Engineering. Projects typically include renovations and additions to existing buildings and utility distributions systems, alterations to offices, classrooms, meeting and conference rooms. Modifications and additions to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, fire protection etc. The incumbent acts as the sub-consultant to the Architect (prime consultant) on most projects and prime consultant for projects with a mainly engineering scope.


Professional services include all aspects of mechanical engineering as defined by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and encompass client liaison, preparation of detailed design layouts, preparation of technical working drawings and specifications, wiring control diagrams, application of seal to drawings in the mechanical discipline, issuing drawings for permit, construction, tendering and performing construction review, and contract administration. The position ensures Ontario Building Code (OBC) compliance on engineering matters, deals with the authorities having jurisdiction and ensures compliance with the University of Toronto Design Standards and other applicable standards and codes.

 

Qualifications Required:

 

EDUCATION:

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering with license to practice in the Province of Ontario; registered and in good standing with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years’ related experience in mechanical design and documentation with demonstrated experience working on institutional projects.


SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in AutoCad, Revit, Excel, MS Word, MS Project.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational and management skills.
  • Skill in motivating staff and fostering a productive team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative, leadership and strong customer service focus.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under conditions of multiple demands and conflicting priorities.
