Description:

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at University Health Network (UHN) are seeking to recruit 1-2 Academic General Internists, to be based primarily at Toronto General Hospital (TGH) and Toronto Western Hospital (TWH). The successful candidate should have an interest in both inpatient and ambulatory general internal medicine. Candidates must currently hold or be eligible for a University of Toronto full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor and should fulfill the academic position description of a Clinician Teacher or Clinician in Quality & Innovation. Effective estimated start date will be July 2025, or sooner as mutually agreed upon.

 

This position will have a 75% clinical component with the remainder 25% of time devoted to either teaching and scholarship (for CT) and quality and innovation (CQI). Other teaching activities as outlined by job description, including formal general undergraduate teaching, is required. The mix of responsibilities will depend on the successful candidate’s background and the needs of the specific site. Competitive candidates will possess outstanding communication, teaching, organizational and interpersonal skills that enable them to work collaboratively with other physicians, learners, hospital staff and administrators. Additional training or interest in POCUS, perioperative medicine, clinic, outpatient hypertension management, addiction medicine as well as other teaching, are considered assets.

 

The successful applicant will have a proven record of excellence. Excellence will be assessed by the presence of scholarly contributions to teaching and education as evidenced by pedagogical innovation, curriculum development, experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and teaching awards. Relevant advanced training (master’s degree, doctoral degree or equivalent) and demonstrated achievement in is required.

 

Successful candidates must hold MD qualifications, be certified (or be eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Internal Medicine and be licensed (or be eligible for licensure) by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.


Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidates. Compensation will be negotiated and within the usual income range for an academic general internist in the Province of Ontario (estimated range is $250,000-$300,000 per year).
