Description:

The Department of Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, is seeking a qualified full-time academic gastroenterologist to fill a fulltime GI hospitalist position. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician-Teacher (CT), Clinician-Educator (CE) or Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI). The expected start date of the position is October 1, 2025, or shortly thereafter.

 

The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate will also have previous experience as a GI hospitalist working with inpatients with complex GI disorders.   This position will run the inpatient GI ward at St. Michael’s hospital and collaborate in research and quality improvement programs. The successful candidate will be fully engaged in Gastroenterology educational programs and learner supervision at all levels, including supervision of fellowship trainees in Gastroenterology, and trainees in the Hospitalist programs at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto and will be prepared to take on a leadership role in education.   For details on the University of Toronto academic clinical faculty requirements for advanced training and demonstrated scholarship for the job descriptions of CT, CE and CQI, please see Table 2 at https://deptmedicine.utoronto.ca/clinical-faculty-academic-appointments#Clinicalfacultyapptcategories

 

The successful candidate will report to the Head, Division of Gastroenterology at St. Michael’s Hospital. The Division of Gastroenterology, composed of eight full time academic gastroenterologists, has an international reputation in therapeutic endoscopy, clinical research, education and quality improvement.
