The Department of Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, is seeking a qualified full-time academic interventional cardiologist. The candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Teacher (CT), Clinician Educator (CE), Clinician Investigator (CI) or Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI) and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The expected start date of the position is July 1, 2025, or shortly before or thereafter.
The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The St. Michael’s interventional cardiology group is internationally recognized for their work in structural heart and chronic total occlusion/complex higher-risk indicated patients (CTO/CHIP) intervention and currently performs over 3,000 diagnostic catheterizations and 1,500 percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) annually. Preference will be given to candidates with proven experience and expertise in intra-vascular imaging and/or intra-coronary physiology. The successful applicant will participate in the 24/7 Primary Angioplasty/Code STEMI service. Further inpatient and outpatient clinical activities (attending on Cardiac ICU or inpatient cardiology teaching unit along with outpatient clinics, including specialty clinics such as SCAD clinic) will be discussed with the successful candidate. In addition to being a skilled coronary interventionalist, the successful candidate will participate in the educational programs in Cardiology at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto and lead or collaborate in clinical research and quality improvement programs. The successful candidate will support outpatient demands and inpatient consultations. The successful candidate will also have or be working towards a graduate degree or other advanced training relevant to their area of specialization. The successful candidate should have a proven academic record of excellence in education or quality improvement. The successful candidate will report to the Head, Division of Cardiology at St. Michael’s Hospital. The Division currently consists of 26 full time cardiologists and provides comprehensive cardiac care including interventional cardiology, interventional electrophysiology, and non-invasive programs including cardiac imaging, and patient care (ambulatory care, coronary intensive care and clinical teaching units). Members of the Division are internationally recognized in both clinical and basic research, and participate fully in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs at the University of Toronto.
