Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Space Flight Laboratory the incumbent provides a full range of support to logistics (shipping, receiving, customs management, export/import issues, couriers, special carriers) and procurement, supporting a world-class facility in the fast-paced field of small satellite development and technology research.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Assessing needs and contributing to the development and formulation of procurement tools, procedures and practices.
  • Serving as a resource to a group or on a function conducting customer and vendor shipments, launching of campaigns and other special shipping needs including trade show shipments.
  • Liaising with custom brokers to clear merchandise coming from outside of Canada to support to customs clearance, and selecting appropriate brokerages while selecting carriers and couriers for time critical shipments.
  • Analyzing, monitoring and reporting on supplier performance based on contracted agreements and strategic objectives and preparing reports related to the movement of goods.
  • Verifying that University procurement and related policies are followed and maintenance of the procurement system implementation and monitoring; and export/import regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinating transportation and border clearance with shipping companies and customs brokers’ while monitoring time critical shipments, troubleshooting problems, implementing solutions to eliminate obstacles and roadblocks.
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required while supporting the general upkeep of the facility .

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of recent and related experience in logistics planning and supplier management.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent and related experience with international and cross border customs clearance.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent and related experience creating documentation required to prepare an export shipment.
  • Experience interpreting and applying procurement policies is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of logistical solutions.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written) and ability to make decisions using some independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, including on tasks under tight timelines requiring critical attention.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and initiative.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills, including database management skills, knowledge of MS Office and FIS or an equivalent financial information system.
  • Must possess problem-solving skills and have the ability to be proactive and innovative in approach.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service while building trust and relationships.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
