Working under the direction of the Assistant Director, Facility Operations, the Manager, Facility Operations is responsible for the management and daily operations of all matters relating to the physical operation, maintenance, safety and security, and appearance of KPE Facilities and for management of the facility support services provided to students, community members, academic and administrative staff, clients, guests and/or spectators.
The incumbent oversees the management of assigned Facilities, including day-to-day maintenance and operations of facility spaces, and ensures the provision of excellent customer service. Acts as the primary point of contact for facility related issues within the Faculty.
As a member of the administrative management team, the incumbent participates in facility planning and plays a leading role in attaining the broad goals and priorities which support the mission and values of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education and the University of Toronto, to provide educational, research, sport and recreational opportunities to students, faculty, staff, athletes, community members, clients and visitors. The incumbent has full managerial authority for over 15 appointed staff members and over 20 casual staff.
The Manager, Facilities Operations will act as designate for the Assistant Director, Facilities Operations in their absence.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
I. EDUCATION:
University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of Facilities Management and Maintenance. Basic Rescuer CPR and Standard First Aid Award required.
BOMA certification, ORRFA (Ontario Registered Recreation Facility Administrator), ORRFM (Ontario Registered Recreation Manager) a definite asset.
II. EXPERIENCE:
Minimum three (3) years related experience working in building management and/or building maintenance. Managerial experience in a comparable recreational facility, performing the following duties: staffing, payroll, budget, facility scheduling, customer service, and staff training. Must have knowledge of and experience with managing staff in a unionized environment., Knowledge of building and fire code required. Knowledge of Employment Standards Act, Health & Safety legislation and WHMIS; experience with special events for large diverse crowds all assets.
III. SKILLS:
Knowledge and understanding of building and service contracts, contracting practices and processes; familiarity with formulating budgets and estimates, reviewing cost reports, preparing financial projections and analyses; advanced knowledge of Microsoft office software systems; mechanical aptitude necessary, familiarity with University of Toronto facility systems required (e.g. laundry, mechanical and engineering systems, telecommunications, security devices and systems). Knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Health and Safety practices in compliance with OHSA, and of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
IV. OTHER:
Strong service orientation, leadership and team management, demonstrated ability to organize and direct activities; excellent negotiation and diplomacy skills; proven ability to collaborate and participate effectively within a team; enthusiasm and skill in mentoring staff, particularly student staff; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated planning scheduling and supervision skills.
