The Finance department is responsible for all financial activities at Hart House, including all day-to-day transactional accounting, preparation of financial reports, payroll, procurement, financial planning and budget preparation and management. The department acts as a strategic partner and resource to assist Hart House management in the running of various student programs, business lines and services, and uses metrics and analytical methods to drive future decision-making and provide opportunity and growth to the organization.
Your opportunity
Under the direction of the Director, Finance – Hart House, the Manager FP&A helps lead and oversee the annual budget, forecast and monthly financial reporting activities for Hart House and its respective components. The incumbent provides expert advice and support to the Hart House business units and operations teams with respect to financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, resulting in value-added decision making.
The Manager will oversee and provide guidance to appointed staff who will assist the Manager in the day-to-day accounting, and cash handling/reporting activities of Hart House. The Manager FP&A will also be involved when complex procurement activities arise and will assist in obtaining competitive quotes and competitive bids for items as required by Hart House units.
The Manager, FP&A will monitor, analyze and accurately report on budget to actual variance on a regular basis, engaging with the Director, Finance and the Hart House Operations team. The incumbent creates financial models to facilitate strategic planning, education and decision making by senior management (e.g. creating or participating in business case development, pricing analyses, cost recovery models, long range budgets, forecasts, amortization schedules, capital investment review). The Manager FP&A will analyze impacts, risks and options for business initiatives and opportunities.
The role will automate certain routines to make financial information usable and timely for the readers and users of the financial information.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Analyzing actual expenditures in comparison to budget and preparing report for financial planning and funding terms compliance
- Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures
- Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
- Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
- Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
- Analyzing financial trends and preparing analytical reports and forecasts for management decision making
- Liaising with internal contacts to resolve accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing issues
- Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting, or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
- CPA or equivalent Designation required
- Minimum five years of relevant experience in financial planning and analysis
- Proven ability to oversee and manage budgets, including strategic planning and forecasting
- Strong analytical skills for financial data modeling and identifying spending trends
- Experience in advising on accounting practices and financial policies
- Ability to make independent decisions by interpreting and applying policies and procedures
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills to handle multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Proficiency in financial software and tools for data analysis and reporting
- Ability to work in a dynamic and diverse University environment, managing competing deadlines and urgent assignments
- Experience in overseeing staff functions and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 15 -- $95,627. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $122,290. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
