Your Opportunity


Residing in the Office of the Vice Dean, Medical Education, the Office of Learner Affairs (OLA) is dedicated to working with and supporting learners from the Temerty Faculty of Medicine’s undergraduate medical education (MD and MD/PhD), Postgraduate Medical Education, Medical Radiation Sciences, Physician Assistant, and Occupational Therapy programs to optimize the learning environment and experience at individual and systems levels, and enable learners’ development into and as health care professionals.


As Manager, Operations & Learner Affairs, you will work closely with the Associate Dean and other senior leaders in defining and accomplishing the strategic priorities of our unit. You will play a transformative role leading our planning processes and will provide strategic operational and project management support for our Office’s functional areas, including mental health and learner experience services and programming. You will have full managerial authority of staff within the unit and will be responsible for oversight and management of the unit’s operating budget.

 

Your Responsibilities will include:


• Leading the development, implementation and evaluation of mental health and learner experience services and programming in consultation with OLA senior leadership
• Providing short-term counselling to learners in distress, in a back-up capacity to staff
• Planning and defining the organizational structure and operations for the work unit, including human resources, information technology and project management
• Developing and managing operating budgets and develop short and long term financial plans, priorities and objectives
• Developing and managing marketing and communication strategies, including producing high-level and sensitive correspondence, reports, proposals, and policy statements


Essential Qualifications


• Master’s Degree within a relevant health discipline (i.e. Psychotherapy, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, etc.) and a registered member in good standing with the applicable professional college (i.e. CRPO, OCSW, SSW)
• Minimum five years of senior administrative experience in an educational and/or mental health setting
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with student/learner services
• Experience supporting program development, program evaluation and quality improvement strategies and processes
• Significant management experience, leading and mentoring staff, preferably in a unionized environment
• Experience in developing and managing budgets and implementing financial management standards and practices
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple, complex projects to completion in a fast-paced high volume environment
• Superior presentation, oral and written communications skills
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
• Strong decision-making skills; strong planning and project management skills, focusing on executing and completing tasks under pressure and managing conflicting priorities and deadlines
• Proactive self-starter with excellent attention to detail
• Ability to train and motivate staff to work collaboratively toward the goals of the office
• Proven ability to advise, to inspire confidence and to persuade
• Ability to solve problems in a strategic and tactical manner; strong conflict management skills
• Effective tact, discretion and good judgement in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive situations
• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

 

Assets (Nonessential):


• Postsecondary education in business administration or equivalent in experience
• Knowledge of trends in medical education
