Your opportunity
The Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) will be a hub for health professional education in the Eastern Greater Toronto Area. Working with regional hospitals and other clinical and community partners, SAMIH will be home to the Physician Assistant program and be an additional site for delivering the MD, Physical Therapy, and Nurse Practitioner programs. SAMIH has also enabled an expansion of undergraduate programs at UTSC.
As Manager, Operations, you will work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer and Vice Dean, Medical Education, and institutional partners to plan, execute and evaluate the successful launch of Temerty Medicine health education programs at SAMIH. You will play an instrumental role in shaping and leading a team dedicated to achieving Temerty Medicine’s strategic program objectives at SAMIH, through the effective management of all administrative functions, namely finance, human resources, information technology, and special projects. Your record of financial acumen, developing comprehensive business plans, building collaborative relationships, and proven ability to navigate and influence within complex organizational structures will help extend the impact of U of T’s health education programs in the Scarborough and Durham Region communities.
Essential Qualifications
- University degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum five (5) years of related and progressive experience managing the development and implementation of educational programs, preferably in a health education or academic setting
- Experience supporting strategic initiatives and developing and implementing business plans
- Significant demonstrated experience developing and implementing effective business processes, systems and procedures, as well as technological systems, to increase efficiency and optimize the use of resources
- Strong financial management experience and analytical ability in budget modelling and forecasting
- Strong track record of successfully building and leading teams, preferably in a unionized environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, labour and employment standards, health & safety and routine collective agreement interpretation
- Proven successful experience liaising with and influencing senior administrators across multiple sites, and handling matters of a complex and sensitive nature
- Proven commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity
- Knowledge of the University of Toronto’s Administrative Management System (AMS), including the Financial Information System (FIS) and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) or similar large enterprise system
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to translate high-level strategic objectives into practical, actionable plans
- Results oriented and the ability to build a high-performance culture
- Proven ability to work with a high degree of independence solving complex problems
- Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes
- Strong decision-making skills; strong planning and project management skills, focusing on executing and completing tasks under pressure and managing conflicting priorities and deadlines
- Strong multi-tasking ability; proven judgment, tact, discretion and diplomacy
- Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with individuals at all levels, both internal and external to the University
Assets (Nonessential):
- MBA and/or formal training in project management
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in health education
This position is located at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, and will be expected to occasionally travel between the University of Toronto's tri-campus sites (St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough).
