About us:

The Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (CTSI) provides leadership in teaching and learning at the University of Toronto and serves as the University’s central teaching hub. In a dynamic and highly collaborative environment, CTSI provides support for pedagogy and pedagogy-driven instructional technology for all teaching staff and teaching assistants across the University’s campuses and divisions. Its services include organizing special events and programming for instructors and teaching assistants related to a range of teaching topics, including educational technologies; conducting personalized and confidential consultations; offering job training and a certificate program for teaching assistants; supporting inquiry into teaching through the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning; providing pedagogical guidance for the use of the institutional learning management system (Quercus); and supporting the institutional online course evaluation system.Driven by the latest advancements in higher education practices and informed by emerging research in post-secondary teaching and learning, CTSI staff work directly with faculty, graduate students, departments and divisions and in partnership with a rangeof University offices to enhance teaching and learning across the institution.

Your opportunity:

As the Multimedia & Module Production Specialist, you will work collaboratively with a broad team in CTSI (including the Teaching Assistants’ Training Program and Academic Research & Collaborative Technologies) to support faculty and graduate students in their creation of effective online learning environments as well as the community of educational technology professionals working in divisions across the University of Toronto. This work will include providing training and assistance with workshops. In collaboration and consultation with subject matter experts and working with e-authoring software and the University’s academic toolbox, including the U of T learning management engine, you will build a range of digital assets (e.g. e-learning modules) to model and promote instructional effectiveness and support student learning. You will also work with arange of media (photographs, videos, animations) to develop enhancements for CTSI communications and websites. Overall, you will provide support for a number of CTSI services and CTSI programming and will act as a technical resource for digital learning across CTSI.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Developing e-learning modules and online assessments for instructional purposes; this will include modules developed for use by CTSI as well as modules developed for other units/offices at U of T
  • Designing graphic elements for digital and online media
  • Creating and editing documents, including training and workshop materials, and support documentation
  • Providing detailed information to instructors on how to build an effective course shell in Quercus (Canvas), the U of T learning management engine
  • Providing job-related training, as needed, to U of T staff and instructors, including CTSI staff (e.g. graduate student peer trainers in the Teaching Assistants’ Training Program) and educational technology professionals across the institution on the building of e-learning modules or the creation and use of digital assets
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars related to designing effective online learning environments and the effective creation and use of digital learning objects
  • Serving as a resource to CTSI staff and staff in partner offices, including educational technology professionals; this includestroubleshooting technical issues brought to light through testing and user feedback

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years' relevant experience working with: graphic design and e-authoring software (e.g. Articulate Storyline or Articulate Rise); a learning management engine in higher education (preferably Canvas); video production and editing, photography and audio production and editing.
  • Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, preferably in an academic setting (students, faculty members, administrative staff, librarians).
  • Demonstrated high proficiency with learning management engines and e-authoring software.
  • High proficiency with a range of visual design and video/audio editing tools, including but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Audacity.
  • High proficiency with MS Office 365 suite of tools.
  • Knowledge of accessibility requirements for the design of online learning environments (AODA standards).
  • Proficiency with lighting and audio-visual equipment.
  • Demonstrated evidence of ability to manage multiple deadlines and range of responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent client support and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including public speaking/presentation skills.
