The Standardized Patient Program (SPP) at the University of Toronto is in its 40th year and continues its long history of providing simulation services to the MD Program and to other departments within Temerty Medicine and the University of Toronto. The program offers flexibility, expertise, collaboration and ability to co-create solutions by tailoring human simulation methodologies to specific client and learners needs.
As Project Manager and Simulation Lead, you will lead and manage simulation projects related to the training, skill development and assessment of learners in the MD Program and clinical departments. Your exceptional project management skills and your ability to influence through effective communication will enable our team to build and sustain working relationships with senior academic and administrative leaders, manage and execute time-sensitive project plans and direct the work of casual staff performing as standardized patients.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Consulting with clients regarding the development of project scope, resources and conducting risk assessments
- Developing project schedules (milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables, reporting) and implementing project plans
- Determining project team members, coordinating recruitment and training of casual staff as standardized patients and overseeing operational workflow
- Developing cases and roles for the Standardized Patient program
- Conducting detailed data analysis to inform programs and making recommendations for programming enhancements
- Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
- Preparing cost estimates for clients and monitoring project accounts
- Fostering stakeholder engagement and maintaining relationships with project partners
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in project management in an educational setting, including supervision and recruitment of staff, teaching and facilitating large groups, and knowledge of learner-centered educational principles
- Proven experience applying project management methodology to large-scale projects, including developing and managing project plans and budgets
- Experience managing and analyzing data for decision making purposes
- Experience sourcing and managing vendor agreements
- Experience with teaching and group facilitation
- Experience supervising casual staff
- Advanced proficiency working with MS Office Suite and Adobe Professional
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain client and stakeholder relationships
- Excellent organizational, supervisory, and project management skills
- Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and crisis management skills
- Ability to work independently and is self-motivated
- Ability to multi-task, manage conflicting priorities, and work to deadlines
- Excellent judgement and a high degree of diplomacy
- Ability to facilitate large and small diverse cohort groups
Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience with healthcare education and standardized patient training and simulation
