Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Fitness & Recreation, the incumbent provides a variety of program support (e.g. MoveU, Recreation Programming, Outreach, Outdoor Recreation, etc.) in a highly customer service oriented environment. The incumbent will assist in the coordination and delivery of athletic and recreational programming and provide general support to departmental initiatives. The Recreation Program Assistant may attend programming activities or events to provide general support and resolve issues that may arise on-site.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Coordinating scheduled activities for functions
  • Liaising with stakeholders to support initiatives
  • Providing routine information on programs and events
  • Coordinating the preparation of space, materials and equipment required for daily programming activities
  • Liaising with contacts to foster an ongoing continuum of opportunities for physical activity programming
  • Disseminating and collecting surveys and questionnaires
  • Coordinating the recruitment process, training, and directing the work of casual staff, work-study staff, and volunteers
  • Preparing payroll records for processing

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years), preferably in Physical Education, Recreation or Sports Management, or acceptable combination of education and experience. Must successfully complete a current recognized Standard First Aid, AED and CPR certificate within the first 6 months of employment. Fitness, personal training and or nutrition certification is an asset.
  • Minimum three years experience in a customer service oriented position within an athletics environment
  • Must have demonstrated experience organizing event logistics
  • Must have demonstrated experience with athletics, equipment and/or program supervision
  • Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to lifting up to 10kg
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated diplomacy and tact with ability to deal with complaints in a professional and calm manner
  • Good judgement and initiative
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
