The Engineering Student Recruitment & Outreach Office (ESROO) promotes interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and is the first point of contact for students and their families interested in pursuing an education at Canada’s top engineering school and one of the best in the world. Our team designs and delivers innovative pre-university outreach programs offered by the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and builds awareness of the different areas of engineering and the roles they play in society. The dynamic team shares information on the faculty’s world-leading programs with students around the globe, supports prospective students and their families throughout the application and admissions cycle, and facilitates a smooth and successful transition into the Engineering program.
Your opportunity:
Working under the general direction of the Director, Engineering Student Recruitment and Retention Office, the incumbent is part of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering’s central team devoted to recruiting top students nationally and internationally. The focus is to recruit students into the engineering programs and help deliver a range of educational and exciting events and transition programs designed to enhance the prospective student and first year student experience. They will also act as the TrackOne, Undeclared Engineering liaison, supporting this program at on-campus events.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting detailed data analysis to inform recruitment strategies and plans.
- Fostering and maintaining a network of external contacts to support recruitment strategies.
- Determining schools to visit based on an analysis of feedback and market trends.
- Travel to key recruitment markets within Canada and internationally to deliver student recruitment presentations to prospective applicants at events and fairs, execute post offer receptions, and conduct school visits.
- Promoting programs at recruitment events and fairs.
- Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials.
- Tracking and monitoring recruitment activities.
- Advising potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and processes by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years of recent and related experience, including related experience with event planning, volunteer management, and domestic and international student recruitment.
- Experience engaging and working with diverse populations through the application of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles to foster inclusive environments and dismantle systemic barriers.
- Experience delivering engaging and dynamic presentations to both large and small audiences, effectively capturing attention and sparking interest.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of the University level education and programs.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint), and Mac platform, (Keynote) or equivalent systems.
- Superior communication (oral, written and presentation) skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effective to a diverse range of audience including but not limited to students, academics, teachers and parents.
- Proven relationship management, leadership, team work, and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service using remarkable interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Proven ability to practice strong professionalism, tact, discretion, initiative, and sound judgment under pressure and stress.
- Demonstrated ability to be assertive and persuasive in establishing relationships with targeted individuals and conveying salient information to a wide range of audience.
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and produce results in high pressure situations and under tight timelines with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, ability to travel nationally and internationally for several weeks, and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license and valid passport.

Assets (Nonessential):
- Thorough understanding of the University level education and programs, especially science and engineering programs.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 12 -- $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
