Description:

A Research Associate position is available at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, University of Toronto in the area of biomaterial hydrogels and therapeutic delivery as related to overcoming blindness, in conjunction with developing the regulatory strategy and manufacturing approach for relevant advanced products with external advisors. This position is a part of collaborative research project within the Shoichet research lab.

 

Qualifications: 

The position requires a PhD in Biochemistry with at least 3-years of relevant experience in biologics delivery for ophthalmologic applications. The initial appointment term is for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal. University of Toronto is a highly competitive employer and compensation will be commensurate with experience of the candidate. Preference given to candidates with experience with:

  • Strong background in proteins and their delivery
  • Understanding of retinal diseases
  • Knowledge of regulatory strategies related to vitreous substitutes
  • Knowledge of pilot GMP-like manufacturing of biomaterial hydrogels
  • Experience working collaboratively with a team

 

Duties:

  • Understand regulatory framework and GMP-like conditions for hydrogel vitreous substitute,
  • Contribute to manuscript and proposal preparation
  • Contribute to publication of academic papers and technical reports
  • Deliver presentations on research findings at meeting and conferences
  • Liase with industry partners and vendors effectively to support research goals
  • Coordinate research projects and meetings as appropriate
