Description:

 

A Research Associate position is available at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, University of Toronto in the area of biomaterial hydrogels and therapeutic delivery as related to overcoming stroke and/or spinal cord injury, in conjunction with developing the regulatory strategy and manufacturing approach for relevant advanced products with external advisors. This position is a part of collaborative research project within the Shoichet research lab.

 

Qualifications

 

The position requires a PhD in Biochemistry or Biotechnology Engineering with at least 3-years of relevant experience in biologics delivery for central nervous system applications. The initial appointment term is for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal. University of Toronto is a highly competitive employer and compensation will be commensurate with experience of the candidate. Preference given to candidates with:

 

  • Strong background in proteins and their delivery
  • Understanding of central nervous system injury models
  • Knowledge of pilot GMP-like manufacturing of biomaterial hydrogels and proteins
  • Experience working collaboratively with a team

 

Duties:

 

  • Understand regulatory framework and GMP-like conditions for hydrogels and proteins
  • Contribute to manuscript and proposal preparation
  • Contribute to publication of academic papers and technical reports
  • Deliver presentations on research findings at meeting and conferences
  • Liase with industry partners and vendors effectively to support research goals
  • Coordinate research projects and meetings as appropriate
  • Design and execute in vivo studies
