The Department of Nutritional Sciences is home to some of the world’s most accomplished, innovative, and reputable researchers. We play a pivotal role in training experts in nutrition who go on to important positions in academia, health care, industry, and government. The Department also plays an important role in educating the public on nutrition issues. We offer MSc and PhD degree programs and a major in Nutritional Sciences at the undergraduate level. We contribute to teaching in the professional Master of Public Health in (Nutrition and Dietetics) degree through the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Our partnerships have allowed us to fully explore the relationships between nutrition and human health and disease and to influence clinical practice and public health programs.

As Research Coordinator, you will play an integral role in helping coordinate the activities and operations of multiple qualitative and quantitative research studies in support of Drs. Jacqueline Beaudry and Vasanti Malik’s research. Your strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail will enable you to assess the operational needs of our labs including equipment and resources. Your background and technical experience supporting research labs will contribute to advancing the overall goals and initiatives of the projects, including collaborating on budgets, adhering to protocol for lab maintenance and safety, and serving as a technical resource for the team.


Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Constructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the process
  • Scheduling day-to-day project activities and monitoring the use of lab equipment and resources
  • Collaborating on cost estimates and ordering supplies with approval
  • Serving as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipment
  • Liaise with service providers to resolve any issues with malfunctioning equipment

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in a research laboratory environment
  • Experience with preparing and assembling the lab material and supplies, and setting up and troubleshooting equipment used for teaching and/or research in the laboratory
  • Experience with safe handling of specialized lab equipment and materials when working with others
  • Excellent knowledge of sterilization procedures, cleaning standards and required maintenance for the lab
  • Experience preparing draft statistical reports and summaries
  • Familiarity with cost estimates and ordering supplies for the lab
  • Excellent knowledge of sterilization procedures, cleaning standards and required maintenance for the lab
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of specialized lab equipment and health and safety protocols of research spaces
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance, security and safety practices
  • Experience with creating and maintaining positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders including faculty, staff, vendors and administrative staff
  • Ability to lift, carry or push weights of 10kg-25kg daily
