Your opportunity:
Based within the Innovations and Partnerships team, the Research Funding Manager will be an integral part of the team working with faculty members and academic administrators across the University to provide efficient and effective service and support to the University research community. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of funding strategies, promoting the University and its researchers to existing and new funding agencies, maximizing funding opportunities with current funding agencies, facilitating multi‐ institutional proposals and those requiring matching funding, providing advice and assistance in proposal development. The provision of such support also includes post‐award activities including the timely and accurate establishment of successful awards on the University’s Administrative Management Systems (AMS), negotiating research funding agreements with sponsors on behalf of the University, post‐award stewardship of funded initiatives, expertise and direction within the team, the portfolio and the research community on compliance related issues in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment; and ongoing analysis of the University’s performance in research funding programs. The Research Funding Manager works closely with research facilitators inside and outside the Innovations and Partnerships portfolio to identify and address administrative challenges and opportunities in research and in developing and implementing service enhancements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing, revising and operationalizing business processes that support research activities and objectives
- Serving as an expert resource on specific issues to a group of specialists
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
- Settling research agreement terms with sponsor and funding agencies including multi-party agreements
- Establishing sub-grant agreements with research partner organizations
- Interpreting and applying policies to independently determine if sponsor terms comply with applicable regulations
- Releasing or holding funds according to internal and external compliance requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of six to seven (6-7) years of relevant experience in research agreement and funding administration including multi-party sponsorship agreements.
- Experience providing advice to faculty and staff administrators with regards to agreements, policy and approach.
- Demonstrated ability to guide and negotiate complex terms of large-scale, multi-party research agreements.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills in order to bring parties together for multi-party agreements.
- Superior relationship management with stakeholders at all levels with a strong sense of judgement, tact and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate organizational structures, policies and procedures in balance with stakeholder goals.
- Expert knowledge of the University's Research Information System (RIS) and Financial Information System (FIS) or equivalent systems.
- Strong computer skills including ability to work with a broad range of internal and external information system tools and electronic processing systems including spreadsheets, databases and sponsor-based electronic systems.

Schedule: Part-Time This is a part-time 50% FTE position.
Pro-Rated at 50% FTE Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 15 -- $47,813 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $61,145. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
