First Year Foundations Program, Engineering Design & Fabrication Course

Job Posting: CUPE 3902 Unit 3

 

Engineering Design & Fabrication is a two-week course that is delivered to newly admitted engineering students prior to the beginning of their fall term. This highly interactive program introduces engineering design as a central aspect of first-year engineering education at UofT.  The course instructor will design and deliver content designed for students with little or no previous experience with these concepts. This course will center activities in the Myhal Fabrication Lab.  The course is inspired by the first-year engineering design programs in Core-8 (Engineering Strategies and Practice) and Engineering Science (Praxis) and is supports students as they become more familiar with the UofT St. George campus and resources. 

 

One Sessional Lecturer position is available for this course, which will be offered twice in the month of August 2025. 

 

Compensation: 1 HCE plus vacation pay


Qualifications: The candidate will be a graduate, with at least a Master’s degree (M.Eng or MASc), from Engineering at the University of Toronto.  They will be very familiar with the Engineering Strategies and Practice AND/OR the Engineering Science Praxis courses.  They will have experience with fabrication laboratory equipment and the integration of hands-on fabrication with an engineering design process. Experience teaching an engineering design course and teaching in an active learning environment is considered an asset. 

 

Duties:  Duties will include designing delivering instructional content for this course.  Will be required to collaborate with Myhal Fabrication Lab Staff to deliver safety training and to support fabrication lab experiences.  Instructor may be provided with TA support.  Each offering of the course will have approximately 30 students.
