Your opportunity:

As the Senior Business Analyst, you will be on the front line of new project intake, working with a range of clients, stakeholders, and subject matter experts. You will coordinate work with departmental resources to move a range of projects and solutions forward. You will be the critical link aligning thestrategic business needs of clients with IT capabilities, focused on delivering high impact, transformational technology solutions in support of teaching, research and administration at the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering.

The Senior Business Analyst will plan, design and assist in the development and procurement of IT systems, products, solution and services. This includes both development of custom applications and management of enterprise workflow capabilities, providing enablementand automation of business processes bases on assessment of stakeholder needs.

The Senior Business Analyst will participate in establishing and strengthening project management and business analysis best practices, including development of analysis techniques, documentation technology, methods, and standards. The Senior Business Analyst is a critical resource in developing partnerships to expand and mature business intelligence capabilities across in partnership with academic departments and units across the Faculty.

The Senior Business Analyst will champion best practices for project governance by ensuring projects go through the complete project management lifecycle, including client communication and signoff, are accurately and fully documented, and ultimately achieve the set-out business objectives.

The Senior Business Analyst will incorporate privacy and accessibility into solution design and work with the Procurement, Information Security and Enterprise Architecture and AODA office to ensure compliance.

For new services, the Senior Business Analyst will be responsible for completing service design documentation to ensure alignment, structural and procedural supports, and change management principles to ensure adoption.

The Senior Business Analyst will provide orientation and training in a variety of channels to end users and technical staff for new and modified systems, coordinate the release of information related to new services and functionalities,lead workshops, and deliver presentations at professional conferences.

The Senior Business Analyst will participate in all stages of the product life cycle including design, development, testing, implementation and support, provide front line support to staff and faculty users of multiple information systems, processes, and reports working as part of dynamic, collaborative, and innovative team focused on delivering transformational technology solutions in support of teaching, research and administration at the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Leading and planning IT projects
  • Planning the implementation of new business system processes
  • Analyzing existing service and process procedures and recommending changes
  • Analyzing and documenting business requirements
  • Overseeing the intake process for new project and change requests
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
  • Analyzing the security and integrity of highly complex system problems and/or implications of any new or changed procedure or technology
  • Reconciling business requirements with informationarchitecture needs for highly complex system integration
  • Providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental initiatives

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree plus completed certificates or training in business analysis, risk management, project management and technical/business writing
  • Minimum five years of direct experience in overseeing and analysing complex IT initiatives, including all aspects of requirements analysis, environmental analysis, process streamlining, providing recommendations, and implementing new or updated systems
  • Minimum five years experience leading the investigation and development of business solutions, coordinating stakeholders and project teams
  • Demonstrated related experience with data analysis and data modeling, requirements gathering, documentation techniques (contextual inquiries, surveys, use cases, scenarios, user stories, process diagrams etc.) and writing technical specifications
  • Proficiency with MS Visio and MS Office 365, including MS Teams, SharePoint, Forms, Power Automate, Power Apps
  • Experience with change management concepts and practical application
  • Demonstrated experience in business process analysis, identifying waste and pain points, and new service design (Lean or alternative frameworks preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing design specifications, and coordinating feedback from stakeholders, partners and consultants
  • Demonstrated experience creating documentation for new and existing solutions
  • Excellent meeting facilitation skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of faculty, staff and students to gather requirements, track action items, and problem solve issues
  • Tactful, discrete, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and sound judgment
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and meet competing priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational, time management, prioritization, delegation and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to solve complex technical and logistical problems and the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical users
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources and provide recommendations
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and collaborate across multiple areas to achieve common business objectives
  • Applicants are expected to show a clear inclination to keep technical skills up-to-date and relevant and an ability to learn quickly from reference manuals and on-line help facilities

Assets (Nonessential):

 

  • PMP, CBAP or similar PMI/IIBA credentials
  • Knowledge of PHIPA, HIPAA, AODA guidelines
  • Familiarity with Lean process design
  • Previous experience working in an Agile development project and SOA methodology
  • Previous experience and familiarity with the University environment, governance, and policies
  • Experience with any web application languages, web server technologies and database applications would be considered an asset
