Your opportunity:

Under general supervision of the Senior Manager, Business Transformation & Program Management and in collaboration with IITS unit managers, the position’s role is to plan, design, and assist in the development or procurement of IT systems, products, solutions, and services. The position will support business decision-making by analyzing existing technologies and suggesting improvements and changes where required by: assessing existing gaps in business processes and service delivery, proposing enhancements and/or alternative solutions, and liaising with technical staff and a wide group of constituents to develop, implement and maintain IT solutions. The position will be responsible for performing needs analysis, risk assessments and for defining and scoping project requirements.

The position will advise the Senior Manager, Business Transformation & Program Management on cost, feasibility, and impact of different technical solutions.

With in-depth knowledge of University IT resources and services, the position will also act as conduit of communication between IITS, IT units from other campuses and various constituents connecting clients with most appropriate IT units and/or cross functional teams to achieve desired results. The position will be responsible for providing orientation and training to end-users and technical staff for new and modified systems, coordinate the release of information related to new services and functionalities, and lead workshops, training sessions, and deliver presentations at professional conferences.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental initiatives

  • Advising clients and technical subject matter experts on best practice for documenting business requirements

  • Liaising with IT departments and clients regarding translation of business requirements into technical specifications

  • Facilitating design meetings for new system processes

  • Analyzing existing services and process procedures and recommending changes

  • Analyzing the security and integrity of highly complex system problems and/or implications of any new or changed procedure or technology

  • Planning the implementation of new business system processes by developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting

  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists; which includes facilitating educational workshops and seminars as appropriate

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • University degree in Business or Information Science or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in requirements analysis in an IT environment. This includes a minimum of 2 years of project management, consulting, and implementing new or updated systems within a large, highly complex and highly technical organization.

  • Certificates or training in project management, business analysis, risk management, and technical/business writing are required. The trainings should align with industry-standard frameworks such as PMI's Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®), IIBA's Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® Guide (BABOK®), or the Scrum Framework.

  • A solid background in software development methodologies is required, including experience with the following: web-based application development technologies and processes, data modeling and business process modeling, user interface design and usability testing.

  • Must have the knowledge of requirements gathering and documentation techniques (contextual inquiries, surveys, use cases, scenarios, user stories, process diagrams etc.)

  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing highly complex problems and producing concrete and actionable solutions.

  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent project management, time management, prioritization and multi-tasking skills

  • Listening and presentation skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, workshops and training

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to solve highly complex technical and logistical problems

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to act on one’s own initiative with the ability to learn quickly from reference manuals and on-line help facilities

  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of faculty, staff, and students, and deal with a high volume of client and vendor demands

Assets (Nonessential):

 

  • CBAP and ITIL Foundations level (or higher) certification would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working in an Agile and Hybrid development project and SOA methodology is considered an asset.
  • Experience with any web application languages, web server technologies and database applications would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in a University setting is preferred.
