About us:

 

The Student Financial Systems Operations unit is responsible for managing information systems for Financial Aid, Awards & Student Accounts, from requirement specification to development, and maintenance to reporting. This includes generating creative solutions and incorporating new technical processes to improve business workflow, production, security, efficiency, and effectiveness.

 

Your opportunity:

 

The incumbent will work closely with the Assistant Registrar, Student Financial Systems to ensure technology administration, requirement validation and project management to support student financial activities. The position acts as a senior business analyst for the University Registrar’s Office systems and applications; such as the Award Explorer Award Management System, and the Financial Aid Hub. The incumbent also effectively and efficiently uses ROSI, the University’s primary student records system, as well as complementary reporting technologies (e.g. PowerBI, Visual Studio Code, Tableau, MSSQL).

 

The position works collaboratively with the School of Graduate Studies, the Office of Student Recruitment, Direct-Entry Admissions, Planning & Budgeting, and other University units to ensure the high-quality execution of technology supported business processes, data management and reporting as related to the student financial cycle. The position is responsible for providing technical direction and support to the Financial Aid, Awards & Student Accounts staff in the University Registrar's Office. The incumbent will work closely with Financial Aid, Awards & Student Accounts colleagues from across the divisions as well as the IT community at the University to ensure the success of projects.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for providing data analysis for Financial Aid, Awards & Student Accounts and enrolment management, assuming primary responsibility for data cleaning and management, reporting, identifying and solving data issues, and tracking, organizing and maintaining data and metrics.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Leading complex, high impact IT projects
  • Documenting complex functional and non-functional requirements for enterprise level systems and applications
  • Providing consultative advice on data requirements
  • Modifying highly complex subsystems
  • Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide databases
  • Advising on the creation of efficiencies for business processes and productivity
  • Analyzing existing service and process procedures and recommending changes
  • Implementing program improvements and maintenance of program standards
  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Information Technology and IT Project Management or Awards, Financial Aid and/or Student Accounts within a Higher Education setting
  • Proven record of successfully managing projects, working independently, analyzing data and meeting deadlines
  • Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of the University of Toronto
  • Excellent SQL writing skills are a must
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to conduct clear presentations
  • Demonstrated effective project management skills
  • Excellent team leadership, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to align operations to support strategic enrolment management goals; ability to work effectively with a wide range of academic and administrative staff and applicants/students
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to act on one’s own initiative; and the ability and inclination to keep technical skills up-to-date and relevant, and the ability to learn quickly from reference manuals and on-line help facilities
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills; ability to work well under pressure and to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work well as a team member in a fast-paced, professional environment; ability to deal with a high volume of client and vendor demands
  • Attention to detail; and excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

 

Assets (Nonessential):

 

  • Experience with data analysis and data modeling, business process analysis, writing technical specifications and use cases, optimizing and implementing new systems would be an asset
  • Direct experience with projects using the software development life cycle highly desired
  • Programming experience desirable
