Course Number and Title: PHL281H1S Bioethics
Course Description: An introduction to the study of moral and legal problems in medical practice and in biomedical research; the development of health policy. Topics include: concepts of health and disease, patient rights, informed consent, allocation of scarce resources, euthanasia, abortion, genetic and reproductive technologies, human research, and mental health.

Estimated Number of Hours: 140 Hours
Schedule: Lectures on Thursdays 11:00-13:00; Tutorials on Thursdays 15:00-18:00 (Lectures and Tutorials are to be delivered online-synchronously)
Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 1st, 2025 - April 30th, 2025
Rate of Pay: $52.26 per hour plus 4% vacation pay

Minimum Qualifications: Undergraduate Degree in Philosophy. One year prior experience as a TA, preferably in Philosophy or a related field at U of T. Good prior knowledge of the subject matter of the course.
Description of Duties:
• Holding 3 one-hour online synchronous tutorials each week
• Preparation for tutorials and grading
• Grading
• Attending training sessions/meetings with the course instructor
• Organizing and submitting grades
• Holding office hours
• Lecture attendance
