CUPE 3902 Unit-3

The Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto seeks one Sessional Lecturer for the APS106: Fundamentals of Computer Programming course from May 01 to June 30, 2025.

Topics include: An introduction to computer systems and software. Topics include the representation of information, algorithms, programming languages, operating systems and software engineering. Emphasis is on the design of algorithms and their implementation in software. Students will develop a competency in the Python programming language. Laboratory exercises will explore the concepts of both Structure-based and Object-Oriented programming using examples drawn from mathematics and engineering applications.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a strong record of preparing and presenting lectures.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate considerable depth of knowledge and experience in the subject area.  All applicants must have excellent communication skills – both oral and written.  The applicant must be able to lecture in a clear voice and explain concepts clearly.  A license to practice engineering in Canada is preferred.

Duties Include: Preparation of in‐person lecture and course materials, delivery of lectures, providing scheduled

office hours for students, setting assignments and Labs, midterm, and final exam, coordinating the work of the

course teaching assistants, grading final examination papers, and evaluating and submitting final course grades. This course is scheduled to be offered in person.

Rate of Pay: Standard course rate as per CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Agreement

Final availability of the position is contingent upon final course determination, enrolment, budgetary considerations, and the final determination of assignments flowing from Article 14:03 of the Collective Agreement.
