SESSIONAL LECTURER (Co-teach) for Winter Term 2025 – CUPE 3902 Unit 3

Course#/Course Title: CHL5921H Protecting the Public from Air Pollution (.25 FCE)

 

Course Description:

This course will focus on air pollution in the context of understanding and managing its impact on public health. Air pollution will be considered from the local to global scale. Specific principles to be covered include: sources and emission of air pollutants, the physical and chemical characteristics of air pollution, methods used to monitor ambient air pollutant levels and understand actual individual and population exposure; the impacts of air pollution on human health and; the practice of setting ambient air quality standards and also informing people in order to benefit public health through reduction in exposure. Lectures on selected topics will be given by experts representing academic, medical, government and industry.

 

Course Learning Objectives:

 

Specific course objectives include:

  • Understand basic principles regarding the production, atmospheric behaviour and public health impacts of air pollution from the local to the global perspective and from toxicology to epidemiology.
  • To provide the learner with the theoretical and applied knowledge of air pollution monitoring and application of monitoring data.
  • Put into perspective the role of risk assessment in air pollution and policy development.

Schedule:  Tuesday, 1:00 – 4:00 pm                                                                         

Sessional dates: January 1-April 30, 2025                            

 

Salary:             Sessional Lecturer I: $ 4,728.95

Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term: $4,965.40

Sessional Lecturer II: $5,060.89

Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term:  $5,163.31

Sessional Lecturer III: $5,181.38

Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term:  $5,285.01

(Salary Inclusive of 4% or 6% vacation pay, where applicable)

           

Please note that should the rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from the rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.

 

Qualifications:   PhD or equivalent; expertise in epidemiology and air pollution health effects research 

 

Description of duties: curriculum planning and implementation, weekly teaching, student interaction, evaluation & grading
