CHM441H1F/CHM1005F – Spectroscopic Analysis in Organic Chemistry (0.25 FCE)

Course Description: Structure and stereochemistry determination using modern spectroscopic techniques. Several techniques are discussed but particular emphasis is given to NMR (1H and 13C NMR) and mass spectrometry. The approach taken emphasizes applications of these spectroscopic methods to organic problems. Students are trained to run their own spectra (IR, UV, NMR, GC-MS).

Estimated TA support: 25 hr.

Class schedule: Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 am – 11:00 am

$4,910.35 for Sessional Lecturer I
$5,255.02 for Sessional Lecturer I Long Term
$5,255.02 for Sessional Lecturer II
$5,380.14 for Sessional Lecturer II Long Term
$5,380.14 for Sessional Lecturer III
$5,515.18 for Sessional Lecturer III Long Term

Minimum qualifications: A Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a closely related field is required.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in organic chemistry laboratory instruction at the university level is preferred.

Description of duties: The Department of Chemistry requires a sessional lecturer to deliver six weeks of lectures (12 hours) of CHM441H1F/CHM1005HF (cross-listed course). The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering and preparing class lectures, supervising TAs, setting, supervising and marking exams, submitting final course marks, reviewing course evaluations with TAs, and holding office hours.  Please note that this course is co-taught with another instructor.
