Sessional Lecturer - CTL3040H - The Education of Students of Refugee Background in Canada and Beyond
Course number and title: CTL3040H - The Education of Students of Refugee Background in Canada and Beyond Course description: This course is offered for graduate students particularly concerned with issues related to student mobility in education, promising education pathways for students of refugee background and programs for language, literacy and numeracy instruction for these students. In this course, students will learn about research, theory, policy and practice as these inform our understanding of the education of students of refugee background. It is intended to provide practitioners and researchers with a critical overview of theoretical and practical perspectives, concepts, strategies, and issues relevant to the education of refugee and asylum seekers. There will be opportunities to review scholarly articles, language policies, curriculum and program documents as well as to explore teaching strategies and tools that promote inclusive education. This course is designed around theory, policy, curriculum and pedagogy to support reflective practice and research related to the students of refugee background.

Salary:
Minimum stipend as of May 1, 2024 is $9,647.05 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should possess a doctorate degree in a relevant discipline and demonstrated currency and mastery of the subject area. Mastery may be demonstrated, but not limited to scholarly publications establishing expertise in the area.
Preferred Qualifications: Over and above the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to individuals with prior graduate teaching experience in this area.
Description of duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this half-course graduate seminar; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work.
