DRM254H1 F Design & Production I

DRM254H1 is a practical and theoretical introduction to the fundamentals of theatrical performance design. This course touches on theatre architecture, conceptual approaches to theatrical design and spatial considerations of live performance. Students will work on case studies and practical projects geared toward understanding theatre terminology, design, and production processes. Students will also explore concrete aspects of technical theatre production, particularly as they pertain to theatrical design elements.

Minimum Qualifications:
Evidence of recent teaching effectiveness in set and costume design and good understanding of related design and production disciplines (lighting, sound, projection). Extensive experience in theatre (minimum 10 years), working in various roles in design and production (set, costume and/or lighting designer, projection designer, etc.) 

Preferred Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in Theatre Studies with a focus on design. Experience working in the imperial system, scale model-making and drafting, and knowledge of realistic human proportions. Free-hand drawing and painting skills are an asset.  

                     
Description of Duties:

  • Develop a detailed syllabus and curriculum for the course  

  • Plan and delivering in-person lectures for individual and group assignments and assessments 

  • Evaluate student performance 

  • Design and invigilate assignments, tests and exams (if applicable) 

  • Hold office hours and meet with students as they request 

  • Manage course content and grades on Quercus, CIS and Emarks 

  • Supervise one teaching assistant, completing a DDAH (distribution of duties and hours) 

  • Handle other pedagogical and administrative tasks ordinarily associated with an undergraduate course
