Course Number and Title: EEB319H1F – Population Ecology
Course Description: Abundance and distribution of populations; population growth and regulation; fluctuations, stochasticity and chaos; meta-population persistence and extinction; age and stage-structured populations; interactions within and between species; optimal harvesting; spread of infectious diseases. Labs include experiments and computer simulations.

Estimated TA Support: 210 hours
Class Schedule: Lectures – Mondays and Wednesdays 1:00pm-2:00pm; and Labs – Thursdays 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm
Sessional Dates of Appointment: September 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025
Salary (0.5 FCE): $9,820.70 for Sessional Lecturer I ($10,510.04 for SLI Long Term); $10,510.04 for Sessional Lecturer II ($10,760.28 for SLII Long Term); $10,760.28 for Sessional Lecturer III ($11,030.36 for SLIII Long Term), inclusive of vacation pay

Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of the subject area and ability in teaching the course subject at a university level. A strong background in concepts and basic models of population ecology; experience working in R and writing scripts for population dynamics; knowledge of mark-recapture and other types of ecological fieldwork and analysis; PhD in ecology; demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience teaching this or a similar university-level course.
Description of the Duties: Prepare and deliver all lectures and laboratory activities; supervise teaching assistant(s) assigned to course; available for office hours; prepare, supervise, and grade of assignments, tests and examinations, as appropriate, in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook.
