Course description: An introduction to the theory and practice of literary criticism. Focusing on a single text or small group of texts, students will gain experience with close reading and analysis, critical theory, research methods, and the conventions and skills particular to literary-critical writing.

Estimated course enrollment:   45 students

Class schedule:    In person Mondays 3 pm – 5 pm and Wednesdays 3 pm – 4 pm

 

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025


Salary (includes vacation pay): 

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer I - Long term: $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturer II- Long term: $10,326.62

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76

Sessional Lecturer III- Long term: $10,570.02

Qualifications: 

A background in literary theory/aesthetics at the graduate level with a PhD or strong academic record in the field is required. Previous teaching experience in the field is preferred.

 

Description of duties:

All duties associated with teaching an Undergraduate Course:

• Preparation of course syllabus and course marking scheme
• Planning and teaching weekly lectures
• Setting and marking assignments/tests/exams and course administration in accordance with University of Toronto regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook for Instructors
• Submission of grades
• Available for office hours for academic counselling of students
• Dealing with student enquiries, appeals and petitions
