The Department of History is seeking 1 Sessional Lecturer for the following course:

 

HIS101Y1Y:  Histories of Violence

Ranging widely chronologically and geographically, this course explores the phenomenon of violence in history. It examines the role and meanings of violence in particular societies (such as ancient Greece and samurai Japan), the ideological foundations and use of violence in the clash of cultures (as in slavery, holy wars, colonization, and genocide), and the effects and memorialization of violence.

 

Minimum qualifications

Master of Arts in History or related field required. Mastery of the subject area as related to the course description above required.

 

Preferred qualifications:  PhD in History preferred.  Demonstrated evidence of superior undergraduate teaching preferred.  Previous experience teaching a similar course is highly desirable.

Description of duties:

Course preparation, lecturing, marking. Supervision of TA(s) in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement. There will be 48 hours of lectures in this course and one office hour per teaching week.  Candidate will share this with the Faculty Instructor.

 

Duties of this position shall be performed at the campus on which the position is located.

 

Estimated Course Enrolment: 300 students.

Estimate of TA Support:  1188 hours

 

Schedule:   Tuesdays and Thursdays 16:00-17:00 In-person lectures

 

Sessional Dates of Appointment:  September 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025

 

*Note that this is a half-time appointment.  Candidate will co-teach and share duties with the Faculty Instructor*

 

Rate of Pay:

Sessional Lecturer I:                              $9,457.90 includes 4% vacation pay

Sessional Lecturer 1, Long term:            $9,930.79 includes 6% vacation pay

Sessional Lecturer II:                             $10,121.77 includes 6% vacation pay

Sessional Lecturer II, Long term :          $10,326.61 includes 6% vacation pay

Sessional Lecturer III:                           $10,362.76 includes 6% vacation pay

Sessional Lecturer III, Long term :         $10,570.01 includes 6% vacation pay
