Course Number and Title: JEG205H1F – Introduction to Soil Science

Course description: This course introduces the fundamentals of soil science, including the chemical, physical, and biological properties of soils as well as soil formation and development, the classification of soils, and the applications of soil science. A field trip may be offered. Distribution Requirements: Science; Breadth Requirements: The Physical and Mathematical Universes (5)

Estimated course enrollment: 60

Estimated TA support:  160 hours

Schedule:  Lectures Wednesday 1-3

Sessional dates: September 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025  

Rate of pay: Stipend for 0.5FCE including vacation pay as of September 1, 2025:

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,820.70

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $10,510.04
Sessional Lecturer II: $10,510.04
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,760.28
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $11,030.36

 

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

 

Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, Physical Geography, Soil Science, or closely related discipline, knowledge of topic areas. Previous teaching experience at the university level will be a plus.

Description of duties: The lecturer will be responsible for effectively delivering the course with all of the attendant organizational issues of lecture and tutorial preparation and delivery, supervising of teaching assistants, setting, supervision and marking of exams, final course marks, course evaluations, providing scheduled office hours for academic counselling, and so forth.
