LGGA91Y3 - Intensive Introductory Modern Standard Arabic - Summer 2025
Course description: An introduction to the basic grammar and vocabulary of standard Arabic - the language common to the Arab world. Classroom activities will promote speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Special attention will be paid to reading and writing in the Arabic script.

Salary: In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a full course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be:
Sessional Lecturer I: $18,915.79
Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term: $19,861.58
Sessional Lecturer II: $20,243.53
Sessional Lecturer III: $20,725.52
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications: Native or near-native fluency in (Modern Standard) Arabic. M.A. in Arabic Languages or Linguistics, Linguistics, Teaching a Foreign Language, Second Language Acquisition, or equivalent. ABD (Ph.D.) preferred.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching (Modern Standard) Arabic language courses at the introductory or intermediate levels in the university setting.
Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours. Please note that this is a compressed 1.0 credit version of the course that will meet twice per week throughout the entire Summer 2025 term (May - August). The course will be taught in-person at UTSC.
