Course number and title: PHYA11H3 - Physics I for Life Sciences
Course description: This first course in Physics at the university level is intended for students enrolled in the Life sciences. It covers fundamental concepts of classical physics and its applications to macroscopic systems. It deals with two main themes; which are Particle and Fluid Mechanics and Waves and Oscillations. The approach will be phenomenological with applications related to life and biological sciences.

Number of Hours: 1.0 FCE
Sessional dates of appointment: Specific duties will occur between September 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025.
Salary: Starting September 1, 2025 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9,820.70 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $10,510.04 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term; $10,510.4 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,760.23 for an Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term; $10,760.23 Sessional Lecturer III; and $11,030.34 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. The rate of pay is established by the Collective Agreement between Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3902 Unit 3 and the University of Toronto.
Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics or a related branch of Physical Science.
Past teaching experience is a more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Description of duties:
Preparation of lectures, lecturing, creation of exams, weekly practicals, term tests and assignments, provision of assignment, test and exam solutions, exam marking, marks management, availability at a regularly scheduled weekly office-hours and meeting and coordination with TA(s).
Schedule for the course: Lectures: Wednesdays 3 PM to 5 PM
Friday: 2 PM to 3 PM
In-person sessions at UTSC campus.
