Course number and title: PPG2003H1S – Capstone Integrating Seminar: Issues In Public Policy

Course description: This course is intended to draw on the skills, analytic approaches, and policy knowledge that students have acquired over the course of the MPP program and to bring them to bear on the development of a coherent policy agenda for the current Canadian context. The course is modelled after the Institute for Research and Public Policy’s Canadian Priorities Agenda (CPA) project, updated to account for the dramatic shifts in the policy environment since the original CPA exercise in 2007. The CPA brought together a group of “agenda-setters” to set priority areas for action, researchers who made proposals for particular policies within each priority area, and a panel of “judges” who recommended new policy agendas for Canada by choosing from among the proposals presented. In this course, the student will act as all three—agenda setters, proponents and judges—in developing and defending an agenda of three policies for their final course assignment.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025

Salary:  Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90; Sessional Lecturer I, Long Term - $9,930.79; Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77; Sessional Lecturer II (Long Term) - $10,326.62; Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76; Sessional Lecturers III (Long Term)  - $10,570.02

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduate degree in public policy or economics required, with specialization in finance. Extensive and senior professional policy practitioner experience required. Teaching experience at the graduate level required.

Preferred Qualifications: Completed PhD preferred. 

Description of duties: Teaching at the graduate level, developing the syllabus, teaching three-hour classes, providing bi-weekly break-out group leadership and office hours for academic counselling of students, preparing and delivering course material, preparing and delivering assignments and tests, marking student work and submitting grades, and supervising TA.
