General Description of Class:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Under general supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of steam fitting work in the area of responsibility.

 

Typical Duties:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required and the extent of responsibility involved in this job.  They in no way limit

the incumbent to the tasks indicated:

 

a)    installs, removes or repairs piping system; steam heating system; hot water systems; high temperature hot water system; condensate.

       piping; air lines; natural gas lines; converters; coils; pressure reducing valves; vacuum systems;

b)    cleans up after work performed; and   

c)    other related duties as required.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Education: 

  • High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be a Red Seal Journeyperson Steamfitter/Pipefitter.

  • Must possess a Natural Gas license.

  • Must be able to work from blueprints / shop drawings.

  • Must be capable of physically demanding work (inside & outside).

  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it pertains to Trade Regulations –Working at heights training.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Experience: 

  • Experience working in a school, college or university preferred. 

  • Must have thorough knowledge of piping systems for steam, hot water, gas and air.

  • Industrial & Construction; training in asbestos, WHMIS and confined space, restricted space and hot space

  • environments.

  • Tickets in the following welding processes would be an asset, 6010 root and 7018 cap and S.S.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Other: 

  • Must have strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Advanced trouble shooting and problem solving skills are required.

  • Basic skills in planning and scheduling of maintenance work are required.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written); ability to work in a team environment and independently; keep up-to-date with changing technology and techniques pursuant to the trade and proficiency with computer software is an asset.
