Daniels Information & Instructional Technology offers comprehensive support in computing, learning technology, and audio-visual services for events and exhibitions. Our mission is to ease technical barriers and enable our faculty, staff, and students to achieve their academic, research, and administrative objectives.


As a key member of the Daniels IT team and working in close collaboration with Director, I&IT, the System and Network Administrator will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the Daniels Faculty's network and server infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to be a key contributor to projects shaping the future of the Faculty including IT hardware and software infrastructure, cloud and web services, audio-visual technology and cutting-edge architectural and environmental science research. Our ideal candidate will have strong background in Windows and Linux servers administration, virtualization, networking and security, and a motivated self-learner in discovering, documenting and optimizing complex IT systems.

 

This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto’s Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.


Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Troubleshooting complex computer system problems
  • Analyzing and installing networking equipment
  • Applying established standards when deploying software and hardware
  • Monitoring the performance and integrity of servers
  • Executing security measures for network devices and introducing variations as required
  • Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
  • Building and maintaining websites
  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum four years of demonstrated working experience and proficiency in:
    • Server OS - Windows Server and Linux
    • Wired and wireless networks hardware and software
    • Microsoft Azure, Intune and 365
    • Web server and web contents CRM (WordPress, Drupal), understanding of general website scripting
    • Microsoft SharePoint administration
  • Experience with troubleshooting systems and applications in a complex networked environment
  • Experience analyzing and installing networking equipment
  • Experience applying established standards when deploying software and hardware
  • Experience monitoring the performance and integrity of servers
  • Experience executing security measures for network devices and introducing variations as required
  • Experience creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
  • Experience building and maintaining websites
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written) to communicate effectively with both highly-technical and non-technical users
  • Strong interpersonal to effectively work with a wide range of faculty, staff, and students
  • Excellent and documented analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work well as a team member in multi-professional environment and as an individual contributor
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision and to act on one’s own initiative

 

Assets (Nonessential):

 

  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIAA+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Cisco CCNA
  • Working knowledge in the following: Print management systems (Pharos, Papercut) & Audio-visual equipment programming (Crestron, Q-SYS) and hardware
  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists
