Under the general direction of the Director, Reporting and Analytics the incumbent is responsible for conducting end user training, coordinating front-line Tableau support and leading Institutional Research and Data Governance (IRDG) data and analytical projects related to process improvement and tool implementations. 

 

The Training and Project Specialist is the project lead for data-related projects that support University divisions in utilizing Tableau for relevant student data and information. The incumbent leads the coordination of integrating financial, HR and student data into the reporting tool, and acts as the technical liaison for planning and advising on analytics solutions for divisions.  The incumbent will provide training and support to users in faculties and divisions in a group setting or on an individual basis to ensure their understanding of new and/or modified data and analytical systems, processes, and tools. The incumbent will adapt Tableau training accordingly in an effort to continuously engage end users and support ongoing changes to Tableau desktop application and the institutional data warehouse and ensure maintenance of end user documentation.  They will deliver expert level, high quality training to end users and integrate learning technology tools and services into their teaching.

 

The incumbent will also be the primary point of contact for all IRDG users requiring data support at the University. As a primary support person they provide specific technical and non-technical guidance to staff while maintaining defined standards and excellence in customer service. Responsible for analyzing help requests; logging and responding to or redirecting the inquiries as appropriate. 

 

As a Training and Project Specialist the incumbent works with other technical support staff and business process owners to effectively respond and quickly resolve problems; oversees requests from creation to resolution. This will require the analyses of business processes and systems to appropriately scope and plan projects under the general direction of the Director.

 

Qualifications

 

Education

 

  • University degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics or equivalent combination of education and experienc

 

Experience

 

  • Five (5) years of experience with Tableau analytics and data management/reporting tools.
  • Working knowledge of University policies and procedures as they relate to human resources, finance and payroll or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with usability and web design principles, including user focus groups and user needs assessments.

 

Skills

 

  • Expert knowledge of Tableau desktop and other data management systems.  
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, spreadsheet, and databases. 
  • Advanced knowledge of learning management systems, technology-enhanced learning solutions, as well as a range of computer applications, web authoring software, social media, and web-based visualization and collaboration tools.

  • Excellent communication skills in order to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical users (written and oral) with strong analytical and problem solving ability
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to conduct training sessions and instruct others
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Write clear, concise procedural and technical documentation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal with multiple demands and to allocate time and priorities efficiently and effectively
