The Centre for Professional Skills (CPS) is a growing centre within Rotman Commerce with the mandate of supporting RC students in developing a core set of professional skills via cumulative curricular and co-curricular touch points throughout their degree. One area of focus for CPS is developing programs that target the communication skills of RC students, including writing and presentation coaching appointments.

Duties: CPS is inviting applications for a writing instructor role. The primary duty of CPS writing instructors is to provide both individual and group writing appointments to Bachelor of Commerce students. Instructors will tutor students on responses to the assigned topic, use of sources, organization, argumentation, style, proficiency with language, and aspects of business writing style. They may also tutor students on note-taking, modes of argument, and methods for reading, planning, drafting and revising texts. Writing instructors may also be asked to respond to student questions, develop pedagogical materials or resources related to writing or communication skills, and collaborate with discipline-based instructors to develop and teach tailored workshops on aspects of academic writing.

In addition to supporting writing communication skills, the writing instructor may also be asked to provide individual and group appointments to help students develop presentation and oral communication skills.

Writing appointments and instruction will be delivered online /remotely (using WCOnline or Teams or Zoom) with some sessions in person, to be scheduled in consultation with the writing instructor depending on schedule and preference.

Contract hours: 150-250 hours between September 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025.

Schedule Information: Hours will be scheduled by mutual agreement and depending on the needs of the Centre.

Salary:
Writing Instructor 1: $53.41 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
Writing Instructor 2: $57.42 per hour, plus 6% vacation pay
Writing Instructor 2 (Priority): $60.29 per hour, plus 6% vacation pay

 

Class Schedule:  Courses may be online or in-person, depending on circumstances, so candidates must be available and comfortable with both.

- This position requires a minimum availability of 150 hours for the weeks of Sept 1/24 and Apr 30/25.

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
