Course Number and Title: PSY210H5 S - Introduction to Developmental Psychology

 

Course Description:  How do children learn to interact with the world around them; to communicate, solve problems, establish moral principles, form meaningful relationships, and develop a sense of self? In this course, you will take an interdisciplinary approach to understanding how a child’s mind and brain develop through exploration of cognitive, biological, social, and cultural factors. At the end of this course, you will have developed an understanding of the theoretical, experimental, ethical, and psychological foundations of developmental psychology.

Prerequisites: PSY100Y5 Exclusions: PSY210H1 or PSYB20H3 or PSYB21H3

 

Estimated course enrolment: 160

 

Estimated TA Support:  129 hours (total number of assigned hours is dependent on course enrolment and course approval)

 

Class schedule: Lecture - Online Asynchronous

 

Sessional dates of appointment: July 1,2025 - August 31, 2025

 

Salary: (In accordance with CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement):

 

  •  $9,457.90 for Sessional Lecturer I
  •  $9,930.79 for Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term
  •  $10,121.77 for Sessional Lecturer II 
  •  $10,326.62 for Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term
  •  $10,362.76 for Sessional Lecturer Ill
  •  $10,570.02 for Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term

 

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D degree or be in the final stages of a PhD. The decision on hiring will be based on previous teaching experience in this course or other similar courses, academic qualifications and suitability for the position.

 

Description of duties: Preparation and delivery of course content; creation of course material, development and administration of assignments, tests and examinations; the supervision of teaching assistants for leading tutorials and grading and marking student work; submission of final grades to appropriate University officials in accordance with policy; the maintenance of reasonable hours for student contact outside of scheduled contact hours.
