Description:

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Improvement & Strategic Initiatives, the Senior Process Engineer will play a key role within the Facilities and Services (F&S) team, bringing expertise in continuous process and quality improvement to facilitate operational excellence and asset management across all F&S portfolios.

 

With F&S undergoing operational changes, this role will focus on developing process improvements and operational efficiencies within various F&S portfolios, starting first with the caretaking services at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus. The Senior Process Engineer will work closely with a team of leaders responsible for Quality Assurance, across the caretaking program and will collaborate directly with the Operations and Compliance Manager for Caretaking Services to drive impactful, sustainable improvements.

 

As a key member of the Business Improvement team, they will also work alongside the Continuous Improvement and Communications teams, and mentor co-op, professional experience, and work-study students. The Senior Process Engineer is an expert in continuous improvement methodologies and a champion of innovation, efficiency, customer-centered solutions, and data-driven decision-making. They help drive focus on F&S strategic priorities by proactively assembling and leading teams, being highly motivated and action-oriented, embracing and influencing change and challenge, and thriving in a multi-disciplinary environment.

 

The Senior Process Engineer works with directors, managers, supervisors, technical, operational and administrative staff across the F&S portfolio. They lead the development and growth of the continuous improvement program. They facilitate diverse process and quality improvement initiatives and improvement cycles from initiation to sustainability and embed continuous improvement ways of thinking, working, and methodologies throughout the F&S portfolio.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a professional license to practice in the Province of Ontario. Registered and in good standing with professional licensing organizations (P. Eng.). Black Belt Lean/Six Sigma certification(s) or equivalent required. Master’s degree is considered an asset. PMP certification or formal Project Management training is considered an asset.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) years direct related work experience in leading and facilitating process improvements with demonstrated measurable results, including savings, efficiency and quality is required. Experience facilitating cross-departmental and multidisciplinary proceedings is essential. Experience managing/coordinating all phases and aspects of a project.

 

SKILLS:
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to present and discuss technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding. Superior organizational skills with ability to manage time effectively and efficiently and manage conflicting priorities and deadlines. Strong analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills, and ability to take functional requirements and translate them into models and concepts. Strong research skills and the ability to gather and analyze system solutions and make recommendations. Excellent PC skills (e.g., MS Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

 

OTHER:
Ability to work under pressure and a constantly fluctuating workload and to meet deadlines. Ability to work with senior University Officers in a manner that facilitates cooperation and consensus building. Demonstrated ability to work with and gain the support of colleagues. Ability and willingness to work cooperatively in a challenging and dynamic environment. A desire to help and serve internal/external customers to meet their needs and is proactive, responsive and focused on discovering, anticipating, and exceeding customer needs. Ability to handle matters requiring diplomacy, sensitivity and confidentiality. Ability to learn continually “on-the-job” under pressure, on own initiative, often without prior training or instructions. Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tactful and diplomatic.
